Draft notice: This document is a working template pending review by qualified legal counsel before public launch. It may not reflect current Vetmodo policy and is not a substitute for professional legal advice.

1. Overview

Vetmodo ("we", "us", "our") respects your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect when you use Vetmodo, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. If you do not agree with this policy, please do not use the Service.

2. Information We Collect

We collect the following types of information:

  • Account information. When you sign up, our authentication provider Clerk collects your email address, name, and (if you choose) a profile image. We receive a unique user ID and basic profile data from Clerk.
  • Clinic listing data. If you claim a clinic, we store the listing information you provide (name, address, hours, phone, website, services, photos, and similar business details) along with a record of which member owns the listing.
  • Payment information. Paid subscriptions are processed by Stripe. We do not store your card details. Stripe sends us a customer ID and subscription metadata so we can manage your plan.
  • Search and usage data. When you search the directory, we may temporarily process the ZIP code or location you provide to return nearby clinics. We use third-party geocoding services to convert ZIP codes into coordinates.
  • Photos and uploads. Photos you upload to your clinic listing are stored in Amazon S3 and served via a public URL.
  • Technical data. We collect standard log information (IP address, browser type, pages visited, referrer) for security, debugging, and analytics.

3. How We Use Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Operate and improve the Service.
  • Authenticate users and protect accounts.
  • Process payments and manage subscriptions.
  • Display clinic listings to pet owners searching for care.
  • Communicate with you about your account or important changes to the Service.
  • Detect, prevent, and respond to fraud, abuse, or security issues.
  • Comply with legal obligations.

4. Third-Party Services

Vetmodo relies on the following third-party services. Each has its own privacy policy that governs how it handles your data:

5. How We Share Information

We do not sell your personal information. We share information only as follows:

  • With the third-party service providers listed above, to the extent needed to operate the Service.
  • Publicly, for clinic listing data you submit (clinic name, address, hours, photos, services). This is the core function of the directory.
  • When required by law, subpoena, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of Vetmodo, our users, or others.
  • In connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, with notice to affected users.

6. Cookies and Tracking

We use cookies and similar technologies for authentication, security, and to remember preferences. Our authentication provider (Clerk) sets cookies to keep you signed in. Stripe sets cookies during the payment flow. We do not currently use third-party advertising cookies.

7. Data Retention

We retain account and clinic listing data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we will delete or anonymize personally identifying data within a reasonable time, except where retention is required for legal, accounting, or fraud prevention purposes. Clinic listings created from public sources may remain in the directory after an owner deletes their account.

8. Your Rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or export the personal information we hold about you. California residents have additional rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA). To exercise these rights, contact us via the About page.

9. Children's Privacy

Vetmodo is not directed to children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.

10. Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information, including encryption in transit (HTTPS), authentication, and access controls. No security measure is perfect, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

11. International Users

Vetmodo is operated from the United States. If you access the Service from outside the U.S., your information may be transferred to, stored, and processed in the U.S. By using the Service, you consent to this transfer.

12. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we'll update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Material changes will be communicated via email or a notice on the Service.
